Holland State Park Beach

Easy access for families with small children. Enjoy the beautiful, meandering drive around Lake Macatawa before winding your way to the lakefront parking lot. Holland State Park Beach has plenty of parking with easy access to swaths of public beach to throw down a towel, and offers an iconic view of the Holland Harbor Lighthouse.

Saugatuck Dunes State Park

As an avid bird watcher, Saugatuck Dunes State Park is a personal favorite. There are two parking lots, I recommend the lot by Felt Mansion (which is a gorgeous photo op). Be prepared to hike about a half mile to access the beach. Aside from the 2.5 miles of available beach, there are dozens of winding hiking trails throughout the coastal dunes and woods.

Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan

A U-shaped drive around Saugatuck ends withs with a windy, wooded drive to Oval Beach. A lovely beach with a host of accolades: Conde Nast Traveler’s Top 25 Beaches in the World and National Geographic’s Top Freshwater Beaches in the USA. Tip: during peak season, the beach gets crowded so best to arrive early. Also, it costs money to park, so be ready to shell out $10 for a spot.
